Location
Grayton Beach State Park is one of my favorite locations to photograph families! Especially those as sweet as the Flores family! The dunes are a little bit of a mini-hike (we don’t have any real hiking here in Florida- this is about as good as it gets, hah!). But they’re so worth the walk! To get to the dunes, we go through the “palm tree forest.” It always feels like a big adventure!
I recommend Grayton Beach as a location for a few reasons. First, if you’re staying in Grayton Beach. It just makes sense! Second, if you just love dunes and want to include them. Third, if you’re staying on 30a without private beach access. It’s an easy place to meet. Plus, it adds more variety to your session than just the beach!
Light
We had a beautiful sunny evening- my favorite! I choose to begin all of my beach sessions an hour before the scheduled sunset. In most areas of the country, photographers use trees or other objects to diffuse light at the beginning of the session when it’s stronger. On the beach though, that’s not really an option. So I’ve really come to embrace what others would consider light that’s too harsh to use for beautiful images, and have crafted my style around it. I ain’t scared of no sunshine! 😉 It is the Sunshine State, after all- and I lean into that!
Style
I also love how Kelly styled her family! Pro tip: if you’re planning a beach session and are unsure of what to wear, white, light blue, and khaki are always safe! As are blush, sage, and heather grey!
